Domestic auto refinish has developed with the development of automobile industry together.
The growth of new car paint has been sluggish because of lack of general recognition relatively, however these days because of recognized the needs of high-quality of film, demand of auto refinish increased radically and technological level has been rapidly developing.
Also for color change from solid color was main in early 70’s, from late 70’s metallic
Color had been adopted in Korea firstly and mark a new era in external and auto refinish coating. From that time the necessity of coating technology and color matching has been recognized.
Recently, the advent of new Micar and opal color highly contributes to diversity and quality enhancement as well as the appearance development.
On the other hand, field color matching system was adopting for auto refinish, color matching, coating skill is compulsory for coating technician to optimize and settle field color matching system. |

Color that we can see is decided according to amount and kind of light wave returning from surface. When the reflected light reaches the retina of eyes, it turned electronic shock and make brain distinguish colors. |

Also, color can be seen different according to light source.
Because, same color board looks as each different color under solar light, fluorescent light, incandescent lamp.
Solar light has all light (red color, yellow, blue color, green light) which can be seen
by eyes, but fluorescent light has blue color, yellow, red light, and incandescent lamp has only yellow, red light. |

Inside of hue circle, there are 8 different colors. In other words, color group 1 (basic color) has blue, red, yellow, green, and color group 2 (mixed color) has purple, orange, yellowish green, bluish green color.
Color group 2 is made by mixing two colors of color group 1. For example, purple is made with red & blue, Orange is made with yellow and red, yellowish green is made
with yellow and green, bluish green is the mixture of blue and green. |

▣ Adjacent colors
-When mixing two colors located
besides on the hue circle, get more clear color
▣ Complementary color, contrast color
- Turbid color is created when mixing the opposite colors on the hue circle. Also, according to the light source different color problem can be found.
For example, using, the contrast color of red, green to lessen red feeling, or using yellow color to lessen blue feeling make color turbid. So take the greatest possible care of mixing.

▣ When comparing difference of color or defines, always distinguish with 3 characteristics below. |
|

1. CAST - red color, yellow color, blue color, green color etc. One color has color tone of 2 directions.
Right of left direction of the primary color, red cannot have blue color or yellow color can not have impression of a color on the hue circle. Orange color can have red color or yellow and can not have blue color or green.
2. DEPTH -For Solid color, depth stands for the degree of black and white, and for metallic color, it means brightness and darkness of the color.
3. Chroma (GRAYNESS)- Clearness and turbidness

▣ When compare the difference of colors, angle is classified by 2angles below. |

1. Front side (FACE) To see panel at an angle of 90˚ .
2. Side (FLOP OR SIDE TONE) To see panel at an angle of 20~60˚.

- There are many reasons why the color of repaired part doesn’t match color of original car color. |

1. The causes of car manufacturers |

1) When produced and delivered with the color of vehicles is out of standard (color difference by lot)
2) When the OEM car paint manufacturer has changed
3) When new type of topcoat coating material was applied
4) When coating equipment, especially spraying equipment was changed
5) When drying temperature was so low or high
6) When the part of car was painted in a different coating line

5) Lack of coating skill, and short of coating equipment (spot or lack of being powered)
6) Inappropriate film thickness (piece is so thin or painted thickly) |
